For: Practicing Spanish 1+ vocabulary, and Spanish 2 grammar and comprehension. This is the PAST TENSE version of my original book. If you are looking for something a bit easier, see my PRESENT TENSE version.
*If you do not use some form of the TPRS method in the classroom, I would suggest using this book for a Level 3 classroom. The vocabulary is from Level 1+, but the grammar is from a level 2 classroom as it uses the past tenses. If the students are not used to listening to and reading stories in the target language, this book would be better read in level 3. It is also much longer than the typical TPRS book, with 69 pages. It takes me about a month of reading the book (only assigned in class) and completing the questions from the packet that goes with it, reading approximately 1-2 chapters per day (with 23 chapters total).
Because I couldn't afford a class set of TPRS Spanish books, I wrote a book for my students to use in class, based on the Foreign Language teaching method TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). I would like to extend this low cost to you as well! You can print the pages front to back and staple it, or you can put some work in and get them bound for a class set to use every year! I bound a class set myself with my nifty binding machine and spiral coils! See the sample pictures for an idea of how they turned out (please note that this is a digital product, and you will not receive the books already bound).
The book focuses on the Spanish 1+ vocabulary lists from the Realidades 1 curriculum, incorporating parts of each list (Food, Clothing, Weather, Time, Community, School, Activities, House and Home, Emotions, and Body) into the story. However, it is written using the past tenses (along with a little bit of the perfect tenses, and future/conditional tenses as well), and thus, suggested for a level 2 classroom. Each year that I teach the book, my students thoroughly enjoy it due to some of the goofy characters (similar to those from their own Spanish class) and the fantasy backdrop of the story. They also liked that it's less repetitive than the typical TPRS book and thus more events take place within a single chapter of the book. This does, however, make it a bit more difficult of a read than the typical TPRS book (as does the 72-page length). I usually assign 1-2 chapters a day and finish the book in a month.
This book is about a class of students that find their Spanish teacher missing one day (she had warned them about this), and they decide to follow her into another world to save both her and their own world from an evil king's destruction. While in the other world, they quickly learn that they need each other's strengths to survive--and that things aren't always as they seem!
By no means am I perfect. If there was a simple error in the product, for example, a typo or grammar mistake, or something of this nature, please email me at Clarke_Alyssa02@yahoo.com to fix it for you before leaving a bad comment or rating. Thanks!
