This is a PowerPoint I created to go along with Chapter 2 of Pasajes for AP Spanish, though it could be adapted for all levels. It includes a description of Lila Downs, a link to her music video for "La Cumbia de Mole", and her song, "La Llorona." This is a lesson that can be taught over two to five days. We discuss what it's like to be caught between two cultures, as Lila Downs was. After listening to "La Cumbia de Mole", we eat traditional mole from Oaxaca. Then the students read "La Llorona" from their textbooks and we listen to Downs' song and compare her life to that of la Llorona. This is a great unit/lesson for el DÃÂÂa de los Muertos. After finishing the lesson, the students are divided into groups and must choose a scene from la Llorona and act it out.
Please note: I have also uploaded an AP style essay to compliment this lesson. The title is: La Comunidad
Hispana: Ensayo AP Spanish Pasajes.
