This should be played in groups of 3 or 4 or as a whole class to practice the family vocabulary using riddles. It is a good way to get away from using another worksheet to practice the content.
cards with riddles
buzzer or bell
How to play in groups of 3-4:
Students are divided into 2 teams and they are competing against each other to see who can get the most answers correct. The students are paired up to go against each other. The cards are placed faced down on the table next to a buzzer. A player will flip a card over so that the riddle is visible to the 2 opposing players. The first player to read and buzz in with the correct answer wins the card and the point. If they are unable to produce an answer, the opposing team may guess the answer to the riddle. The players then switch roles and the players waiting to compete will face off against each other. The team to win the most card/points, wins the game.
ex. card flipped over reads " La madre de mi madre es mi___"
player buzzes in and says "madre" and win's the point for the team.
When all the cards have been flipped over, the team with the most cards wins the game.
How to play as a class:
This can be used as a class review so students can do a self check on the vocabulary. Students will need a piece of paper and a pen or pencil for this activity.
The teacher flips a card over and reads the sentence to the students. As they listen to the riddles, students write the correct family member based on the description. After each riffle, the teacher will go over the answer withe the students. By doing this, they can keep track of which vocabulary words they know and which ones they need to go back and review.
You may laminate and use for a long time.
