In an effort to increase the amount of Spanish language music I expose my students to I found an amazing songbook Canta, Mariachi, Canta!
. The book contains arrangements of mariachi songs and even includes Orff arrangements
This PowerPoint accompanies one of the songs I recently taught my students, "La Golondrina", or, "The Swallow". In a nutshell, this is a song about missing your homeland. This was written by Narcisco Serradell when he was exiled in France during the French intervention in Mexico.
This song offers opportunities for two-part harmony and exposure to Spanish vocabulary. The Spanish in this song is older so my students have had a great time with their Spanish teacher learning the new vocabulary. Included in this PowerPoint are the lyrics that correspond with the song arrangement and also a video of a mariachi group singing the song.
Currently, there are some issues with the animation with the fermatas and tied vowels with all the other animations but come back for an update shortly when that issue will be fixed
