La Llorona: The Weeping Woman >
An In-Depth Classroom Study for Grades 3-8
***+35 MORE RESOURCES Added 9-29-14!***
This series of original and unique activities focuses Joe Hayes’ retelling of the old Hispanic legend La Llorona,. On the surface La Llorona or The Weeping Woman is just another ghost story, but at its core it is an allegory—both rich in culture and tradition. The story tells the tale of Maria, a jaded wife, who blames her children for her failed marriage. Ultimately Maria becomes the Medea of the modern age, committing an unspeakable crime!
This is not a formal lesson or unit plan per se, but rather a Collection of Unique Review Sheets, 2-point Rubric Assessment Questions, Worksheets, Story Boards, Graphic Organizers, Vocabulary Cards and various other Activities. The original items will work perfectly as a Part of a Unit of Study in Fiction and its Related Literary Themes. The activities also make excellent Bulletin Board Ideas!
The materials provided can definitely be used for up to a 2 Week ELA Unit and are interchangeable between grade levels. You can easily differentiate your lessons in a variety of ways. Remember you need a copy of Joe Hayes’ book La Llorona: The Weeping Woman, and it should be read-aloud to the children at least 2x. I actually typed up the story for my third grade classes so they could use it to answer the 2 pt. rubric question, but alas that would be copyright infringement if I included here. Thank you can enjoy!
