This is a project for students in Spanish class. It combines the concepts of “Ojos de Dios” (Mexican) and “Molas.”(Panamanian) The students create an ornament / decoration to learn about the artisanal work from Mexican and Panamanian cultures.
The product the students create can be used as a wall hanging or an ornament. I have the students layer 7 paper squares (colored paper either card-stock or regular weight) that increase in size. Once they have created 6 layered squares, they place them all together in the shape of a star / snowflake.
My students have really enjoyed doing this project. It takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from start to finish so my students work and watch a movie in Spanish or listen to Spanish carols while they work. Some of my students have even asked for extra paper to do the project at home with their family!
