In this activity, students have a problem on their hands. After a study abroad trip, their father has found all kinds of items and is starting to understand why the credit card bill is so high. In an effort to find out how much money they spent abroad, Dad is asking for the students to find the receipts for the articles bought. However, the students' vocabulary is a little rusty and all of the receipts are in Euros!
So, students must find the item on the receipts (included in the activity), write the Euro amount, and figure out the US Dollar amount by figuring out the exchange rate and applying it.
I used this in my Spanish I class, and I was so impressed with how much they spoke and read and really had motivation to figure out the answers!
You could also adapt this to other languages or a different currency!
