This project is amazing!! Parents love it, and students agonize through it. Some of the more mature students find that they got so much more out of life by abstaining from technology for 24 hours.
This is a three part project that I have used in both my Spanish 3 and 4 classes (sophomores and juniors) for the past five years, and it has been a great human experiment.
Part 1 includes a detailed log.
Part 2 includes interviewing an adult.
Part 3 is the essay.
This project is easily adaptable to make more restrictions and higher expectations depending upon the level you teach, or only expect certain amount of work to be done in Spanish or English, again, depending upon the level.
This project helped students to step out of their comfort zones, have a face to face conversation with their parents, and utilize technology vocabulary in their essay.
Grading rubric included.
