Product Description
"La gallina negra" is a Gypsy legend that can be easily found online (free domain). The ppt. in pdf format highlights important events in the legend with visuals from public domain images. After reading the legend I ask them to make a connection to one of the Disney's movie. Then I inform them that many of the Disney films were inspired by Gypsy legends. I like to read Gypsy legends in April for International Romani Day (April 8).

I also like to take the opportunity to raise awareness of issues facing the Romani people. I have students do a search online for issues that the Romani people have faced for centuries. Students then share with the class their findings.

My higher level of Spanish students also read an article and then write a composition discussing the issues faced the the Romani people.
