The Legend of Sant Jordi (San Jorge, St. George) tells the story of a dragon which terrorizes a city, only to be slain by a knight in shining armor, and in the place where the dragon fell, a beautiful rose bush grew, the roses which were given to the princess of the city. Today, April 23 is known as el Día de la Rosa and is widely celebrated in Spain, most especially in Cataluña. Our adventurous mouse, Mateo, plays the part of Sant Jordi in our version of the legend, simplified to make it more accessible to students at an intermediate level- or would be great for heritage speakers in upper elementary or middle school! Bring CULTURE into your class with this legend!
