Ties into the new Ontario Grade 5 Social Studies Curriculum unit on "First Nations and Europeans in New France" but easily applicable to other subjects and grade levels as well. Level of French is most appropriate for students in Extended French or French Immersion.
I did a bunch of activities before and after this one to build my class' understanding of the relationship between the Europeans and First Nations people. We talked a lot about point of view and perspective (which we were also learning about in our English classes at the time). I found drama activities to be especially effective when teaching this unit. My students did short skits where they were asked to demonstrate the perspective of one of the groups involved, and their culminating task was to create a brochure encouraging Europeans to move to New France.
