This is an amusing and challenging reading in Spanish written in the past tense and focusing on the past subjunctive. It is written using natural Spanish and everyday vocabulary. Students may work in pairs to read it and write out a solution. The reading can be used for class discussion. Students may be asked to underline all the past subjunctive forms and then translate it sentence by sentence in which case it teaches a lot of vocabulary and useful expressions.
I usually follow it up the next class day by asking the students to work in pairs to write and draw their own fotonovelas in the past tense, drawing pictures in a comic strip form and including sentences with each picture. I ask them to include in their narrative at least five sentences that use the past subjunctive.
I've included a template for the Fotonovela exercise.
