This lab goes with the Unit 3-Electrons in Atoms.
In this lab, students will be assisting the Crime Scene Investigators from the local police department to help solve a puzzling crime. They will analyze unknown evidence against known samples, and use their knowledge of flame tests and electrons to bring the suspect(s) to justice and close this case.
This lab gives students practice using Bunsen burners correctly, electron excitement in metals, and how an individual element's line spectra or color can help in investigations.
This lab also includes a teacher page on how to prepare solutions for the lab.
•Lighter or matches for Bunsen burner
•Known sample solutions in Erlenmeyer flasks:
o Sodium Chloride
o Lithium Chloride
o Potassium Chloride
o Strontium Chloride
o Barium Chloride
o Calcium Chloride
o Copper Chloride
