Materials Needed for the lab: Various Sedimentary Rock samples, Earth Science Reference Table (free link below)

Suggested Materials: magnifying glasses, dilute Hcl for acid test on limestones

Pre-Lab: Students read a passage and sketch the process of sedimentary rock formation

During Lab: Students make observations of various Sedimentary Rock Samples and must:

1. make a sketch of their rock sample

2. make a list of observations of their rock sample

3. Use the Earth Science Reference Table to make conclusions about the texture, composition, rock name, and map symbol
