Directions for Vocabulary Word Ladder
Need:
Game board
2 markers
1 penny or the Vocabulary spinner
Vocabulary Cards

This is a 2 player/team game. Students take turns drawing a Vocabulary Match Up card (include words and definitions). If a vocabulary word is chosen, then the definition needs to be given. If the definition is chosen, then the vocabulary word needs to be given.
When students are correct, they flip a penny. Heads moves forward one space. Tails move forward two. When incorrect, they again flip the penny. Heads move back one space. Tails stay in place. The first to the top wins.
Variation: If you use the Vocabulary spinner, take out the definition cards before playing.
The Vocabulary List sheets can be used as an answer key.

Directions for Vocabulary Memory Game
Place the 24 vocabulary cards in a grid face down, players take turns flipping pairs of cards over. On each turn, the player will first turn one card over, then a second. If the two cards match, the player scores one point, the two cards are removed from the game, and the player gets another turn.

Directions for Vocabulary Spinner
Need:
Vocabulary Match Up cards
Spinner (The spinner works well by holding a paperclip in the middle with a pencil [use the eraser end] and spinner.)
For a whole class, small group, or paired activity students can choose a vocabulary word (from the Vocabulary Cards) , spin the spinner, and give the answer needed. If the student is unable to answer, the others can be encouraged to brainstorm possible correct responses.

Suggested Directions for Making the Vocabulary Cards
Print out the card backs on cardstock or tagboard then copy the vocabulary and definitions on the other side. Cut and laminate for durability.
