Product Description
Yet another geology lab from Laura Branch!

This lab requires critical thinking on the students' part. Students will look at the difference between the deposition of placer gold and quartz vein gold. Students will have to use the library or internet research in order to figure out how the gold got there and what types of geological environments are needed to get such a deposit.

Students will be using technology, prior knowledge of geology and drawing to complete this lab.

At the end of the lab, students should be able to draw and label cross-sections to show the deposition of gold in California, Alaska, Black Hills South Dakota and Nevada.

I use this lab as a spring board into plate tectonics and volcanics. I figure that the 49ers did not know about plate tectonics to figure out where the gold was so I'm trying to get my students to think like a 49er. In the process, they learn some great geology!
