This product includes three booklets to guide middle school students in scientific writing and three rubrics for scoring student writing.
The guidelines, tips, and rubrics included are specific for reporting on the results, discussion, and conclusion of a lab or experiment. Students are scaffolded in their writing and given tips for structuring, organizing, and fluently connecting their ideas.
The information is general enough to be used for a whole-class lab as well as group or individual experiments.
HOW TO USE:
Print each booklet double-sided so that they can be folded along the dotted line and taped or placed in each student’s ISN.
Consider printing each booklet a different color so that students can quickly differentiate between the different booklets. I did my results booklets orange, discussion booklets blue, and conclusion booklets pink.
Introduce these to students toward the beginning of the year during their first lab experience. Throughout the rest of the year, students can refer back to these any time they complete a lab.
Have students add in their own tips for sentence starters and transition words and phrases in the spaces provided
Have students practice and improve their scientific writing right from the beginning of the year so that they are ready to rock their writing during Science Fair!
