Before school starts, I like to create folders for home/school communication. I used to have kids get confused about what items were supposed to be returned and which items could stay at home. Then I started making my old folders, and it really helped. I print out these labels on Avery sticky-back paper, and then just cut them and stick them right on the correct side. The Items that need to "come right back" go on the RIGHT hand side of the folder, and the items that need to be "left at home" go on the LEFT side! Kids quickly see the pattern. To make the folders look even cuter, I buy pre-cut shapes of little hands. I glue a left hand on the left side and the right hand on the right. This helps with younger kids who are still not yet sure which side is which, and it even benefits special needs students in older grades. I hope this helps you get and stay organized at the beginning of the year!
