This power point presentation on Labor Day was created so a young child can understand the holiday. It is simple and it leads the class to respond to questions so the class is always engaged. It explains in a very simple way how Labor Day is different than other holidays. It also discusses the many ways families might celebrate Labor Day today. It encourages each child to share how their family celebrates this holiday. This presentation makes a point of saying that Labor Day can be celebrated in anyway a family wishes to celebrate it; so that every child feels comfortable in sharing their holiday on Tuesday when they return to school. A point is made in explaining that some people just want to relax over the long weekend; being sensitive to the fact that some children in your class won’t be going to the beach, swimming or on a picnic. It also addresses the fact that some people have to work over this holiday and this presentation uses pictures to lead the class in a discussion of why this is necessary. I felt this was important because some children in your class might be spending the weekend without their parents present. It was my desire to make every child feel proud of their family and their country.
