This SMART NOTEBOOK lesson is a great way for elementary music students to practice and reinforce their knowledge of tone set "mi-sol-la." Activities in this lesson include a heartbeat tapping chart with cute bird picture icons, a rhythm icon tapping chart with birds as the rhythm icons, a rhythm dictation chart where students have to dictate the rhythm to the song on top of the heartbeat picture icons using real rhythm notation icons, a reading "mi-sol-la' in various places on a 3 line/2 space staff exercise, and finally reading/singing the song in it's entirety on a full staff in two different notation forms (1 with cute bird picture icons as note heads and 1 with real rhythm notation icons as note heads). At the end of the lesson, there is a sorting activity in which the students have to arrange the 4 melodic Solfege phrases of the song into the correct melodic sequence. This lesson is appropriate for students in grades 1-3.
