Enrich your study of Roald Dahl’s “Lamb to the Slaughter” with this digital writing activity. Students assume the role of either Mrs. Maloney’s prosecutor or her defense lawyer in the trial for the murder of her husband. Given the evidence in the story, students write a “closing statement” defending their position. **Clearly, Mrs. Maloney is guilty, but the task is to create an argument supporting the chosen position, using textual evidence to solidify claims.**
1. Description and guided brainstorming – students collect textual evidence and decide how to “spin” it for the jury
2. Editable Rubrics – Choose between analytic and holistic versions
3. Screen-reader version (Google doc)
4. Paper version (.doc)
Your download is a .zip file containing a .pdf with download instructions for Google Drive, upload instructions for the digital learning environment of your choice (Google, Microsoft, etc.), and a .doc of the printable version of this resource.
You can find the traditional version here.
