These four resources will allow you to deliver an interactive and motivating lesson in which students work collaboratively to apply their knowledge of creating an enterprise and then present to the class.
There is a vocabulary sheet (student and teacher version) about entreprise, business, and work that students should complete before this lesson.
Begin class with the discussion questions provided in groups of four or five (cut into cards and give a different question to each group member)
There is a Powerpoint and Student Handout called "Les étapes de la création d'une entreprises" that coincide (student copy has blanks). Begin the lesson by moving through the Powerpoint and using the example of the website "J'ai pas envie" (now known as needelp.com) to guide your explanations of each step. See ideas and examples of how to relate this business to the steps in the last page of the Word document. You may choose to do this throughout the presentation or after.
Once complete, divide students into four groups. Each group receives a startup business included in the document "Idées entreprises". The group imagines that they are the entrepreneurs and they have to explain their business plan to the class, who is going to decide whether to invest in the company or not. Students should use the backside of the student handout to guide their business plan.
After the presentation, allow three questions to be ask and the group must respond spontaneously and effectively.
At the end, the class votes on the most effective presentation.
I had such success with this activity in my Grade 11 Core French class. They loved it and were interested in the unique startups that they were assigned. I will definitely do this activity again in the future.
