Three lesson plans and a little bit of tech coaching can help you use Google Earth to teach your students about landforms. The three different activities are tailored to three different teaching styles and have all been tried out with 5th grade classes at my school. Google Earth is a fabulous teaching tool but can sometimes go off the rails if you don't have a focused plan. This lesson will allow you to use it in a very guided way that has achievable and understandable goals. There are three files of Google Earth placemarks (also known as .kmz files) as well as the student response sheets that go with the first two lessons. Rounding out the lesson are twenty-one original landform icons that can be used in other projects.
