Collaborative Gallery Walk Project!
As teachers, we understand that often there is more content to teach than time allotted. This Gallery Walk project is a great method to cover several landmark Supreme Court cases with limited time! The assignment is versatile and can easily be altered to differentiate for your own classroom. My students had great success with this assignment and I know your class will too!
Students will be assigned a landmark Supreme Court case to research in a small group. The students will then create an interactive museum exhibit which includes a visual or auditory element. Some students created a virtual exhibit while others composed the assignment in freehand. (Another great way to differentiate!) Then, on an assigned day, the teacher can have all students display their projects to form the Gallery. Each group of students visits the other 'exhibits' to learn about the other cases. *To keep students accountable, it is recommended to have a note taking graphic organizer to accompany the Gallery Walk.
Students are assessed on the content, visual aspect and relevancy of the case to our 21st century society. Also, this assignment can easily be expanded to become a larger assessment for the unit.
