Langston Hughes' Poetry can be used as a pre-reading activity for A Raisin in the Sun or it can be used on its own!
Pre-reading is an important part of any unit. Introduce your students to the play "A Raisin in the Sun" by having students read two of Langston Hughes' poems, "Harlem" (Dream Deferred) and "Mother to Son."
This product is designed to last three class periods but can easily be adjusted to last for fewer. Included is a schedule, teaching tips/information, and four handouts that are ready to print.
Not included are the actual poems as they are still under copyright. "Harlem" is printed with the play in all editions I've seen, and "Mother to Son" is easily found online and can be printed by you under fair use guidelines for your class.
Not teaching A Raisin in the Sun? That's fine, these poems can easily be studied without reading the play!
