My name is Pamela Vizdos and this Language Arts lesson involves your students rewriting the Gettysburg Address in their own words - using newly acquired vocabulary. I love the Civil War and this lesson plan will hopefully draw students in so that they can understand the power of words. There are 5 known manuscript copies of the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg Address contained approximately 272 words and the speech lasted about 3 minutes. Lesson: students will break into small groups for the rewrite and one student from each group will present their rewrite to the class. This lesson can also be completed individually with each student presenting their rewrite to the class. The product includes the following: complete lesson plan with timeline, PowerPoint presentation; vocabulary words; word wall words; link to Youtube for audio/video of Gettysburg Address; copy of Gettysburg Address handout for students; quiz and answer sheet; matching vocabulary quiz and answer sheet; rubric for rewrite and presentation. Please let me know if you are unable to open the zip file and I will email all of the individual documents to you. I hope you enjoy the product!
