This is a rubric used for scoring leads or introductions to papers. There are three main types of leads. One type focuses on the setting or mood of the paper. One type focuses on using dialogue to begin a paper. The final type of lead uses a small specific action to begin a paper. After a lesson on how to create leads using these three styles, students can practice drafting their own. This rubric is the scoring tool for that. It includes three scoring categories for each type of lead. Students can be scored on one lead, or or all three, depending on how much time you want to spend on this. There are two rubrics per page to save on copying. This was created by Stephanie Byrne.
