Product Description
This is the third menu in the series of Language Arts Menus for independent work, fast-finishers, or extensions for high-level learners. Your students have a variety of options covering many aspects of reading and writing, including vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, word parts, spelling, figurative language, and more!

To implement, simply print and laminate! You can choose to assign students a “meal” (they must order an appetizer, main dish, and dessert) or assign them a certain amount of money to “spend.” At the end of the work period, students can report to you what they have accomplished by filling out the “check.” Student engagement is increased because they are given the power to choose!

These activities meet the following 4th grade Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.4.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.4.1 Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.4.3 Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.4.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including those that allude to significant characters found in mythology (e.g., Herculean).
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.4.4b Read grade-level prose and poetry orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.4.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

And the following 5th grade Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.5.4b Read grade-level prose and poetry orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.5.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
