This packet is for use with a mystery unit of study in a middle school Language Arts classroom. It allows for each student to choose their own mystery novel to read and then breaks down the work as they progress in their novel. They must identify character, setting, conflict, etc. as well as summarize each section and work through the steps of a mystery story. Also included is a glossary of common mystery unit vocabulary and rubrics for grading the work in the casebook. When I've used this before, I gave students an 11x17 sheet of paper or newsprint to fold over the top and back as a cover. They then decorated it to match the novel they chose to read.
