This 5th and 6th grade language arts performance task was created to help students prepare for the SBAC and PARCC tests. This specific performance task is an informative/explanatory prompt based on the topic of climate change.
Students are asked to read and take notes on two articles about climate change as well as a a video. The articles and video links, as well as note taking graphic organizers are included.
After reading, students will answer three short answer comprehension questions. Grading rubrics and examples are included.
Finally, students will write a full length expository essay explaining climate change as if they were an expert at a town hall meeting. Rubrics are also included for this aspect as well.
After completing this performance task, students will have a better understanding of what will be asked from them on the state test, as well as the confidence they need to succeed on the test.
