Product Description
Children at the emergent level of reading should be exposed to appropriate academic language arts concept vocabulary. The 38 words chosen in this emergent vocabulary set will support beginning readers as they learn about literacy.

These terms are Common Core friendly and support the language arts academic vocabulary found at the kindergarten level. These academic vocabulary cards are an excellent tool for English language learners (ELLs) as well!

Each academic vocabulary card has the word, a student-friendly definition, non-linguistic representation (picture), and an example sentence to demonstrate the word in context.

There is a blank template provided so additional vocabulary cards can be made according to your needs. If you have words that you think should be included, send me a message and I will add them to this list!

It is best to Introduce 1-3 terms each week depending on the skills you are working on. You may want to create a word wall with the cards and add them to the wall as words are introduced. Remember that students need 5-7 exposures of a new word to move it from short to long term memory.

Play quick review games with these terms so students have repeated opportunities to understand and contextual the term.
