For my first year teaching, I was provided with very little groundwork from the previous teacher. After the initial panic of having no idea where to start, I made a list of books that I wanted to teach sixth and seventh graders. I thought about the writing pieces that could correspond with different books. I went through supplies that I needed in middle school, high school, college that helped for a successful learning experience. Suddenly, the brainstorming became my curriculum.
Whether you are a new teacher or a teacher looking to revamp your curriculum, this download is a good starter kit. It includes my sixth and seventh grade booklists featuring whole class books and books offered for literature circles. It also includes the class supply list, the class rules, the class routines, and points/due dates throughout the year. Within the class routines, you will see how the books are used to correspond to writing workshop pieces and group projects.
I would provide all of these handouts to my students at the beginning of the year to give them an overview of the year ahead.
