This center is intended for use in a first- or second-grade classroom. However, it could also be useful in review with third-grade students. The materials are designed around the phrase "Don't get ANTSy about writing compound sentences." Therefore, this product accommodates an insect theme, with ants as the primary focus in design.
To complete this center, the students will create ants by combining three parts of the ant body to build a compound sentence. The first and third body parts contain sentences, while the middle part contains a conjunction. After building the ant, the students will write the compound sentence correctly on the recording sheet, which is also provided within this product. In all, the students will build ten compound sentences to complete this center.
This product also includes blank templates for the ants, should you prefer to have your students create their own compound sentences for display or further practice.
For additional reference, this product also includes a colorful, visually-appealing FANBOYS conjunction poster, which could be displayed for students to use within the center as well. While the poster contains all FANBOYS conjunctions, this center activity focuses on three primary conjunctions: and, or, but.
With the exception of the first couple of pages, this product is primarily black-and-white in design, thereby making it a printer-friendly product for teacher use.
