Description
Proficiency Scales with Learning Goals and Student Success Criteria are not just for Core Subject areas. They can be applied to any learning target! This scale framework has EDITABLE form fields to help you Language Development expectations for your ESL, ELL, Spanish (or other language) Immersion programs, or students with language disabilities. The scale can work as a reference for remembering and practice key vocabulary the you want your student to become responsible for. This scale and vocabulary assignment sheet can become a tool for tracking progress and communicating with parents.
This scale is a product of brainstorm at one of my Professional Development sessions at a Spanish Immersion school in Phoenix, Arizona. They were struggling to integrate the language learning with content learning assessments. We settled on creating a separate scale that students could refer to all year, to assess themselves in their second language development.
The Spanish vocabulary knowledge and usage was assessed separately from the content standards. This felt more 'fair' to students and teachers who had to assign subject grades. We reasoned that this approach had more long term value for the whole school because not every teacher in the school had Spanish immersion students. This approach also worked for some of their ESL language learners.
I get my BEST ideas for creating scales from direct teacher input! If you have a product you would like to see, or would like some consultation feel free to contact me at www.mrslsleveledlearning.com, or by email at Melanie.licausi@mrslsleveledlearning.com
