This is a 5-point rubric and scoresheet for a daily bell ringer for grades 6-8+ with a focus on grammar, language, and paragraph writing. This rubric was originally designed to go with the Daily Language Review (DLR) and Daily Paragraph workbooks (I alternate each week's bell ringers between the two workbooks). The rubric assesses students on both completeness (with corrections as necessary) and a randomly selected paragraph from the several they complete before each folder check.
I use this to assess my students' bell ringer work throughout the year. I scan their overall work since the previous folder check to make sure they are completing their bell ringer each day and making corrections when we go over them together. Then I randomly select a paragraph from one of the Daily Paragraph prompts. I assess that paragraph for grammatical accuracy and to see if students are applying the skills they practice in the bell ringers each day.
This rubric could be applied to any bell ringer where students are practicing grammar or vocabulary skills as well as paragraph writing or journaling.
