Do your students struggle with knowing when and how to modify their behavior and language to fit differing social situations? Do they use street slang in job interviews? Are they in the habit of calling you "dawg"? This unit is a fun, creative and challenging way for teens to learn how to switch channels based on whom they are interacting with and why.
This unit includes a pre-unit survey, a funny skit that illustrates the Universal Rule of Language Registers, notes on the different language registers, stories in both formal and casual English, and a culminating activity that requires students to apply what they have learned to a fun skit writing project.
