Sight Word Pack
This is a sight word package working with 10 sight words.The words are: the, an, my, at, am, see, can, look, is, & here. The purpose of this pack is to help beginning kindergarten students learn 10 of the pre-primer words necessary to begin reading. Using the Common Core Standards kindergarten students need to know 25 sight words by the end of the 1st quarter and 125 words by the end of the year. These activities and games can also be used with those students that need additional support.
This pack includes:
Two Bump Games – Bump That Pig! One with the 1st five words and the other with all 10 words. (See ‘Bump That Pig’ in my TPT Store. This game is the same.)
Game - Shoo Fly Shoo! – Bang Type Game (See this game in my TPT Store. It is the same but instead of ‘double e words’, it has the 10 target words.)
Game – Where is baby fly? Search for baby fly by reading the word you think it is behind in the pocket chart.
Game – Swat That Fly! Swat the sight word called out with a fly swatter.
Sight Word Activity Sheet – There is a page for each sight word in which the children trace the word, write the word, color the word, find the word & circle it, & phrases or sentences to read and underline the sight word.
Rainbow Writing – Children will write the words with different colors.
Write Me! – Children will write the words with markers, colored pencils, crayons, and pens. My children like to use colored pens. One page uses the 1st five words, another uses the next 5 words. There is a page to fill in any 5 words of your choice, and another page to fill in any 7 words.
Word Search – Children look for the words, circle, them, and write how many of each word they found. (2 pages with 5 words on each page to find)
Practice Reading - 2 pages for the children to practice reading rebus phrases or sentences with these 10 words. This is good to send home for practice too.
Word lists – Word List with these 10 words to take home to practice reading. This word list can be used in the classsroom for children to stamp the words, make them with playdough, make them with magnetic letters, letter beads, or tiles.
Pocket Chart Rebus Phrases and Sentences – Place these in a pocket chart for whole or small group practice. This is great for warm-up for guided reading groups or whole group practice. Starts with ‘My dog’.
Fill in the Word – Rebus phrases or sentences for the children to write the target word in and to practice reading. There is a page for each of the 10 words.
Sight Word Mini Books – There are 7 pages with the target word or phrase on the page. The children will color pictures provided, cut them out and glue them on the pages. They will read the book to learn the target word.
Read the Word Around the Room – The words or phrases ‘the, my, Here is a, I see the’ are glued on tongue depressors to hold up to objects in the room to read. (the book, I see books.) The card, Look at, is to be held up to the children in the room to read. (Look at Kenidee.) The children are to hold up the cards ‘I can’ and ‘I am’ and perform an action to complete the sentence. (I am jumping. I can snap.) They can do this whole group, small group, or with 2 children pairing up.
Song – This is a song to the tune of “Bingo” using each of the 10 words. It can be put on the smart board.
