This is a presentation for introducing students to the cultural and literary background of the classic Spanish novela "Las Ataduras" by Carmen Martín Gaite, a work often on reading lists for AP Spanish and university-level Spanish courses. It can be used for at least three class meetings, and inspires writing assignments to go along with the reading of the classic novela.
In this presentation, I offer a brief bio of Gaite, a quick summary of the plot, introduce some relevant information about Galician culture, and then ask questions to inspire in-class discussion as students explore this fascinating literary work about the emotional attachments in a family. Abundant images make this PDF useful for in-class presentation. All text is in Spanish.
This presentation is "road-tested": I have used it successfully with many students, and refined it over the years.
