Free Voluntary Reading & Sustained Silent Reading. This is a late level 2 or level 3 reader for Spanish classes. It can be used in sustained silent or free voluntary reading. This book is for those teachers who would like to incorporate the research of Dr. Stephen Krashen in their practice, especially TPRS and CI teachers.
While the objective of this story is not to teach grammar or vocabulary traditionally, it can be used nicely in conjunction with any textbook unit on relationship vocabulary, especially level 3, chapter 1, of the Descubre series. The story-line lends itself to the TPRS technique of "Reader's Theatre." The story is designed for students to come up with the ending which can be used to elicit level-appropriate output in the presentational mode.
"Nancy and Rodolfo" is a short story about a girl from a private school who dates a boy from a public school. Nancy’s parents are very strict and so is her school. Nancy is so strict that she makes her boyfriend Rodolfo wear a school uniform and keep his shirt tucked in even on their dates. Rodolfo is a laid back teenage boy and he likes to dress in casual clothing. He doesn’t like Nancy’s strictness, but he puts up with it because of her beauty. One day, he meets a punk rock girl and starts having second thoughts about Nancy.. Will Nancy and Rodolfo break up and end up with different partners? Will they reconcile and stay together? Find out in this story!
Accompanying this book are 5 audio files of a native speaker of Spanish reading the story. This exposes the students to a native-speaker accent, especially if the teacher is not a native speaker.
