Product Description
This is an entire weekly unit on Spanish Legends (leyendas) - specifically "La llorona," with a mini-lesson on "El trauco." It contains vocabulary, a project based on students' opinion, the (slightly adjusted) story of la llorona, grammar (preterit progressive), practice activities, and multiple quizzes. The advanced activity is based on the real history of "la llorona" as "la malinche." :)

Included:
- vocabulary list - 23 words including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and expressions along with grammar points and suggestion for culture research/paragraph
- song lyrics (to "La llorona" by Chevela Vargas - although you could use any number of versions)
- powerpoint - with pictures of vocabulary words for practice and bell work activities
- mini-lesson on "el trauco" (in powerpoint) - worksheet includes notes to be taken from powerpoint and from video (youtube)
- "La llorona" reading and questions to check understanding
- grammar lesson and practice - past progressive (**DISCLAIMER: we have a very limited amount of time - like 5 total weeks for Spanish 2B - and are therefore unable to introduce the imperfect. So in order to build off of what students already know - the preterit - we choose to introduce the preterit progressive. I know that technically the imperfect preterit would be used in most instances. Feel free to change based off of your students ability/needs)
- speaking activities (in powerpoint) having students ask/answer questions about their opinions/beliefs of legends
- project - students write a paragraph in Spanish about their opinion on one of the legends (llorona or trauco)
- reading and grammar quiz (2 versions for retakes)
- advanced assignment - an independent activity to challenge strong students (history of "la llorona" as "la malinche")
- YouTube links for videos

Rubrics:
- Each quiz has a rubric at the bottom (can be easily adjusted for your state standards)
- In our class, if students get a 100% on the quiz, he/she receives a 4 or "proficient". The student must complete the advanced assignment to get the "advanced". This may seem confusing but works well in our class, especially for differentiation and adhering to state standard rubrics. Feel free to adapt the grading for what is best for your class!! :)
