Product Description
This is a packaged lesson of the Abridged version of the Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. Complete with this lesson is the following:

-The abridged version of the story provided by the American English Resource Center

-an audio recording of the story read by myself, DeShaun Johnson, with atmospheric music and sound effects strung with the vocals for suspense

-a PDF of 10 multiple choice questions designed and written by DeShaun Johnson

-a PDF of listing the materials and lesson directions to teach The Tell Tale Heart. Inside the PDF you'll find links to:
*A Kahoot It! activity
*A Quizizz activity
*A Google form

The 10 multiple choice questions originally come from the Google form, but have been imported into the Kahoot It! and Quizizz websites. This is for teachers who would like to spice up and gamify the questions to increase student engagement.

If not, a printed PDF of the form is packaged in and a link is provided for the Google form if you have the technology and enough devices for your students to access them.

Why Did I Make This?

I recently taught a six grade reading blitz for our state testing, STAAR here in Texas, and did not want to read orally over and over again to my students. Neither did I have the time to have student volunteer readers because things were fast paced.

So at read the story on my computer and saved it as an mp3. When I played the mp3, I was able to monitor the room easier while the kids read and enjoyed a 40% increase in reading engagement.

I then got adventurous by adding music for suspense and atmosphere (creating interludes at certain points in the story) and that really helped the kids enjoy the reading more.

I had a smartboard in the room I taught in which became a big touch screen; I would put the Google form of mulitiple choice questions on the projector, have kids come up and touch the answer, and they loved it!

So I took all the work I put into creating this lesson and packaged it for sell here. Which brings me to my next point...

Who can use this?

Really...any Reading, ELAR, Inclusion, SPED, or Resource teacher, but because of the reading content and myself being a middle school teacher, I thought this would be best suited for middle school range.

However, it you are...
*a teacher in need of last minute activities or emergency lesson
*a teacher whose students need oral reading
*a teacher who does not have time to search for Kahoot It! questions
*a teacher who does not like to read orally to their students or pressed for time
*a teacher who needed something already prepared with step 1 - 5 listed
*a teacher wanting to teach easy-to-understand classics to middle schoolers
*a teacher that does not like to plan whether late or early...

Then this is for you. Any questions, do not hesitate to ask me!
