This is a critical thinking and research exercise for high school history students. The intent of this activity is to have students analyze the historical relationship between the United States and Latin American nations in the western hemisphere.
In this exercise, students will examine three different occasions (of their own choosing) that the United States intervened into the affairs of its neighbors to the South. In their examination, students are encouraged to get a better feel for Latin American history through the lens of American influence. It may be done in individual or paired settings.
Ideally, a guided class discussion should follow, one which looks for common themes and overarching ideas.
