Although you can find panpipes in many countries around the world, this unique instrument is often heard in music from the Andes mountains of South America. Traditional panpipes are made from hollow reeds, similar to bamboo but you can learn about the instrument here and make your own working version with recycled materials such as drinking straws.
Make zampoñas as part of a geography or world cultures lesson or as a way to explore music and develop the type of skills used in playing similar wind instruments.
