Six pages including: Three worksheets, assessment, and two page matching word sort that will assist you in teaching students how to decode words with Latin suffixes. I created these last year because I was having difficulty finding resources online.
Typically, I teach the first worksheet in a whole group format and use the other two in small groups with students who need more explicit instruction. The matching word sort is fantastic for collaborative learning, and can be used as a "memory" game. Students simply cut them out, mix them up, then match up the root word and Latin suffix to create a word. I also challenge them to write sentences with the words in a notebook.
The assessment matches the standard RF 3.3b "Decode Latin suffixes." I teach at a standards-based school, so the students are considered to be meeting the standard if they can read most of the words listed under Meets. If they can read them all, then we have them read the words under Exceeds to determine if they are above-grade level. You can change the assessment to match the grading policy at your school!
