This 311 page Latin Greek Vocabulary Unit has enough materials to take your class through the year, doing a unit a week. Each of the 30 units has two practice pages and a test, along with keys for each.
Specifically, this packet contains:
1 Master List of Vocabulary Roots and Their Meanings
1 Student Vocabulary Template
30 “Practice Vocabulary” Pages: Includes matching activities (cloze) as well as additional questions, which help kids understand these words more fully. Questions are open-ended and help kids understand how the words are relevant to their lives.
30 “More Practice Vocabulary” Pages: These are skill based questions centering around the vocabulary words of the week. They are varied and include analogies, synonyms, antonyms, parts of speech, plurals and possessives, Venn diagrams, and more.
30 Tests: Match the definitions to the vocabulary words. These are half sheets and I run my spelling tests on the back of this test.
30 Keys (2 pages each): Keys for all of the worksheets and tests
5 Foldables (can be used with any units for your interactive notebooks)
60 Pocket Chart Cards with roots and definitions
240 Pocket Chart Cards with Vocabulary Words and Definitions
I love teaching vocabulary this way! I introduce four words on Monday and four on Tuesday. Kids record these on the vocabulary templates which are three hole punched to put into their binders.I introduce the vocabulary in a variety of ways, either putting the words on the board and asking if anyone knows any of the definitions, putting the definitions up and seeing if anyone knows the vocabulary words, or doing a form of “Wheel of Fortune”, where the definition are up but only a scattering of the letters of the vocabulary words and the kids try to figure them out.
Once the vocabulary word and definition are up, we discuss the word and talk about how we would use it in a sentence. Kids use the vocabulary form to write down the word and the definition and to use the word in a sentence.
On Wednesday and Thursday, I assign the Vocabulary Practice and More Vocabulary Practice to reinforce the words. On Friday I give students the matching the words to the definitions test.
You can also include the foldables whenever you'd like. The pocket chart cards are also great for sorting/matching games (spiral them at centers throughout the year), and they can be used as a concentration game center.
