The unit plan in this product is designed for five 60-minute classes. However, you can alter these plans to go as fast or as slow as you need to in order to meet the needs of your students. In addition to that, there are handouts, a rubric and a list of standards that the unit addresses.
Teaching students the essential vocabulary words before the lesson is vital. Students who have an understanding of the important terms are more likely to comprehend the concept. There are many strategies to teach vocabulary words. For example, you may have your student’s draw pictures that relate to the words, or you may have them play a game like Pictionary or charades. Word maps or apps like quizlet are also wonderful ways to teach vocabulary words and reinforce their meaning.
Practice Problems and Handouts
Allowing students to complete practice problems will reinforce what you have taught them in class. For those students who are struggling with the concept, you may want to have them refer to the helpful handout to guide their learning.
The short story provides a fun and engaging reading that introduces your students to the geography concept. The story will help students recall the geography skill and assist them in applying that information to demonstrate their knowledge.
Demonstration of Knowledge
At the end of the unit there is a section for your students to demonstrate their knowledge of the concept through a test and project. This will provide you with a quick assessment of how well your student understood the material.
