This lesson begins with George Washington becoming President of the United States and goes through to the purchase of Louisiana Territory by Jefferson. You can feel free to go through and take notes first, going back to fill in activities at the end; or you can take notes and fill in the activities as you go. We usually create a t-shirt design promoting one of the two initial Political Parties and make a postage stamp design to sum up Thomas Jefferson. Then, we complete a map activity regarding the Louisiana Purchase.
DoodleNotes are an interactive way for students to take notes, while feeling free to doodle and make them their own. The doodlenotes pages follow the two PowerPoints and the PowerPoints are highlighted so that the students are guided to pick out the most important things, rather than every single thing on the slide. Students love doodlenotes as opposed to the old-fashioned strategy. I see colorful notes during class and it always seems to promote discussion.
