Laura Ingalls Wilder, Her Life and Times is an informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. This resource is a good supplement to use as a introduction to or while teaching one of Wilder’s novels. Each of the two texts can be used alone (but in sequence): they could be assigned as the teacher wishes: in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc.
The two texts are chronological: Part 1 is titled “Young Laura Ingalls” and Part 2 “Laura Ingalls Wilder, Author”. Each text has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short creative writing assignment.
There is a one-page cloze activity using the twelve vocabulary words from Parts 1 and 2 (introduced in the work sheet for each part).
A short quiz completes the resource and consists of six multiple-choice questions and one short answer question.
