Since I teach both ELA and social studies in 8th grade when I loop up that year, I can combine some of the work. I find that "Chains" is a wonderful book to read with the kids while they are learning about colonial life in pre-Revolution America, especially since it gives the perspective of a black girl in the North rather than the South.
In this resource, I have pulled out some vocabulary and created a chart for the kids to see the word in context, find its definition and part of speech and draw a simple image of it. After each vocabulary chart, there are also comprehension questions separately, and then the questions again with their answers.
There are three sections to this resource, covering chapters 1 to 5 in the book.
