Students will learn about the law of conservation of mass with this PowerPoint. Also included are the directions for a law of conservation of mass lab. During this lab investigation, students will measure the mass of the reactants, conduct the experiment, and then measure the mass of the products.
Each station will need vinegar, baking soda, plastic baggies, a small container, and a triple-beam balance. Students will measure the mass of the vinegar in a small container that has been enclosed in a plastic baggie with baking soda. After finding the mass, students will spill the vinegar allowing the vinegar and baking soda to mix. After the fizzing stops, students will find the mass again.
